How the Reports Work

What to Expect Upon Completing the Surveys
The various components of the What Works in Schools Online Surveys will

  • Identify your school or district's strengths and weaknesses.
  • Focus on those issues that will respond most readily to intervention.
  • Highlight areas of concern that, when addressed, are most likely to increase student performance.

Responses to the surveys will allow us to recommend tools (from a variety of sources) to help you address your specific areas of need. You will determine how you wish to see the data reported, and you can determine how you will share the data within your school or district.

To analyze the responses from the What Works in Schools Online Surveys, we break down reports according to demographic information that participants provide.

For the Staff Survey, you can get reports for

  • A composite of all district responses
  • Each school that participates
  • All teachers
  • All administrators
  • Teachers by subject area
  • Teachers by grade level
  • All participants by gender
  • Regions or clusters within the district (if applicable)

In each report, we analyze the item responses using the mean (average) and the standard deviation (how much variation in responses). Bar graphs make the data easy to read and compare.

In addition, the composite report will identify the 10 areas that the data suggest would be a good place to start your improvement efforts. You will then be able to request a list of resources related to any five areas that you wish to explore further.

For the Parent/Guardian/Community Survey, you can get reports for

  • A composite of all responses
  • All parents
  • All guardians
  • All community members
  • All participants by ethnicity
  • All participants by the language spoken at home
  • All participants by whether or not their children receive free or reduced-priced lunches

In each report, we analyze the item responses using the mean (average). Bar graphs make the data easy to read and compare.

In addition, the composite report will identify the 10 areas that the data suggest would be a good place to start your improvement efforts. You will then be able to request a list of resources related to any five areas that you wish to explore further.

Finally, if you purchase both surveys, you can get a comparison report that lets you see how responses from each survey compare on a factor-by-factor basis.
